Again in 2021, Wedgewood will be offering Lifeguard Training and Lifeguarding Recertification. All dates and times for the classes are listed below. Once we know the size of classes and confirmation of dates, we will email the official registration form with complete details. Payment will not be collected until classes commence.
1.Full Blended Lifeguard Class: June 5th and 6th 8:30 am – 6:30 pm (2 days)
fee is $250 for members, $300 for non members. Fee does not include the cost of textbook, which is available free online in PDF form. The hard copy can be purchased separately if desired.
*You must be 15 years old on or before the final session of this course
2.Lifeguard Review/Recertification: May 29th 8:00 am – 6:30 pm (1 day)
fee is $150 for members, $175 for non members
*this class is needed if you have taken LG training 2 or more years ago
Basic Requirements for enrolling in the Lifeguard Class:
a. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may
swim using front crawl, breastroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not
allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
b. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
c. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
-starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not
allowed
-surface dive, feet first or head first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the
surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object
and keeping the face at or near the surface so they can get a breath. Candidates should not swim the
distance underwater. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
