At The Wedgewood Club, we are dedicated to providing a vibrant and inclusive environment for our members. We expect our members to conduct themselves with integrity, sportsmanship, and respect for the staff, facilities, equipment, and rules of the club. By demonstrating responsible conduct and consideration for others, we can ensure that all members enjoy a safe and enjoyable experience.
Club Rules and Regulations
- All of the Club rules and regulations are subject to change by the Board of Governors. Any changes will be posted promptly. The Board of Governors reserves the right to cancel at any time the Club privilege of any individual or family who does not comply with these rules and regulations.
- The Club Managers, Directors, and Governors have the authority at all times to enforce the rules and to take any necessary action to guarantee the safety and enjoyment of all. They may issue verbal or written rules, in addition to the rules printed herein, when times or circumstances warrant.
- All suggestions concerning the use and improvement of the Club should be made in writing to the appropriate Committee Chairperson and/or your Board of Governors.
- All Members and Guests of the Club shall conduct themselves in a manner befitting responsible members of the community.
- Each year, all Club Members MUST fill out Emergency Information, as IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE CLUB CAN REACH AN ADULT MEMBER AT ANY TIME
- A parent or responsible person must be on the club grounds at all times to supervise children who are nine (9) years old and younger. Children ten (10) years or who are entering fifth (5th) grade or older, and who have passed the pool test, may use the club without such supervision until 6 pm. After 6 pm a parent or adult caregiver 16 years or older must supervise children under 13 years old.
- Members may hire a sitter thirteen (13) years or older to supervise their children when they are not on the grounds themselves before 6 pm. Babysitters are not permitted to use the swimming pool while babysitting unless supervising children in their care or with the permission of the Club Manager.
- Every precaution will be taken for the safety of all concerned, but the Club is not responsible for accidents of any kind.
- The Club will not be responsible for personal property lost or damaged anywhere on the Club grounds.
- Smoking is prohibited on club grounds.
- No pets or animals will be permitted on the Club grounds. This includes the parking lot and all areas of the property inside and outside of the fences.
- All vehicles shall be parked in the specified parking areas ONLY. Bicycles, tricycles, skateboards, scooters, in-line skates, motorbikes, etc., are not permitted within the fenced areas of the Club grounds.
- Children should understand the importance of the responsibilities of staff members and show respect for their roles. This includes refraining from actions that may divert their attention from doing their jobs and/or ensuring the safety of individuals in the area.
- Children are NOT allowed to play in the parking lot or on the stone walls adjoining the parking area.
- Children under age six (6) must be accompanied by an adult or responsible person when using the bathroom/shower facilities.
- No drinking from glass containers on club grounds. Please discreetly decant into a paper or plastic container for safety.
- No drinks, food, or containers of food on the pool deck or in the locker rooms at any time except plastic/unbreakable water bottles.
- Members are responsible for clearing the areas they have used of trash. Papers and other trash are to be disposed of in the trash or recycling containers provided.
- Any damage to the Club buildings or grounds by a member or a member’s guest is the responsibility of that member.
- No tipping of Club employees is allowed except for instructors of private lessons.
- Members are not allowed to reprimand employees. All complaints should be made verbally or in writing to the Club Manager. If members are dissatisfied with the action taken, a formal complaint in writing can then be made to your Board of Governors.
- No part of the Club premises shall be used for soliciting, circulating petitions or holding sectarian or political meetings, or selling goods or services without the approval of the Board of Governors except for members’ advertising babysitting services while at the club.
- Appropriate usage of the internet/wifi is expected by all members.
The following Rules and Regulations are established to provide maximum protection and enjoyment at the pool for all members. Parents must instruct their children to observe these rules and to follow the instructions of the Aquatics Director and the pool staff.
General pool rules:
- Members may use the pool at any time when a lifeguard is on duty. Please wait until the lifeguard is seated in the guard chair before entering the pool.
- If conditions warrant it, the lifeguard has the authority to require parental supervision of their children at the pool area at any time. The lifeguard has the final authority to restrict pool usage in the interest of safety.
- Personal flotation devices including water wings, life jackets, and swim rings are not permitted in the large pool area. Other water toys and small balls will be allowed at the lifeguards’ discretion.
- Children should not distract lifeguards while on duty. This includes having prolonged conversations with lifeguards and/or sitting on the lifeguard chairs.
- No food (of any kind) or drink may be brought onto the pool deck with the exception of plastic/unbreakable water bottles.
- No chairs, except those used by lifeguards, may be brought onto the pool deck.
- All guests must be introduced to the lifeguards on duty before using the pool.
- After 6:00 p.m., children under age 13 who have passed the pool test may swim in the main pool if a parent or other responsible adult is on the Wedgewood grounds. The lifeguard on duty cannot be delegated as the responsible adult to supervise any child. Swim team members who are actively participating in team practice are exempt from this rule while at practice.
- Diving from the deep end at the end of the lanes is permitted. Diving from the sides of the deep end as well as any part of the shallow end is not permitted. Diving at the deep end may be restricted at the discretion of the lifeguards in case of overcrowding, horseplay, or other conditions.
- No more than THREE running steps are allowed when running and jumping into the pool.
- Adult Swim may be called on the hour for fifteen (15) minutes or at any time at the discretion of the Aquatics Director or lifeguard. (Adults: those age 16 years and older)
- Lane 1 is designated for lap swimming: 2 person maximum. It is mandatory to share the lane when a second swimmer enters. Stay on your side of the lane and swim parallel to the other swimmer.
Pool Test Rules:
- All children under the age of 13 are required to take the pool test EACH year.
- Children may swim in the main pool unassisted if they have passed Wedgewood’s standard pool test.
- Children who have NOT passed the swim test may swim in the shallow end of the pool (up to the 5ft mark) only while under direct supervision from a parent or responsible adult 16+ who is watching from the pool deck. This rule applies at all times, including all special events. (ie Splash Parties, Family Day)
- Children who have NOT passed the swim test may swim in the deep end of the pool ONLY if a parent/caregiver or responsible adult 16+ is with them in the pool.
- Members may use the dive pool only when a lifeguard is on duty at the dive pool.
The requirements to pass the pool test are as follows:- Swim 25 yards freestyle;
- Swim another 25 yards of any stroke, including free-style, tap the wall and then
- Tread water for one minute in the deep end unassisted without stopping or holding onto the pool wall.
The swimmer must pass the pool test to the lifeguard’s satisfaction, and demonstrate competence and confidence in the water.
Parents/siblings/friends may watch from the grassy area in front of the Wedgewood sign and may not be on the deck while the lifeguard conducts the swim test.
During peak times at the pool, lifeguards may not be available to conduct swim tests
General Dive Pool Rules:
- All divers must pass the pool test in order to use the diving pool
- Only one diver is allowed on the board at a time.
- Divers must wait for the previous diver to reach the ladder before diving.
- All diving must be straight off the board, not towards the sides of the pool.
- The diver must swim directly to the ladder and exit the pool.
- Diving is only allowed off the board, not the sides of the diving pool.
- The use of any pool toys such as tennis balls, are allowed at the discretion of the lifeguard on duty.
Wading Pool Rules:
- Only children age 6 and under are permitted to use the wading pool and MUST be supervised by a parent or other responsible person within the wading pool area AT ALL TIMES as the lifeguards do not guard this area.
- Running in the wading pool is prohibited.
- All flotation devices are banned from the wading pool.
Health and Safety Rules for all pools:
- The Board of Health requires that showers must be taken before using the pool.
- No person with a cold, cough, fever, inflamed eyes, skin disease, or contagious disease; or wearing a bandage or band-aid will be permitted to swim in the pools.
- Only children who are toilet trained may use the large pool. No diapers of any kind are allowed in the large pool.
- Children using the sandbox must rinse off sand before using the pools.
- Running is not permitted on any of the pool decks as the decks may be wet and slippery.
- Playing tag, ball, or any other water game is prohibited, unless with the permission of the Aquatics Director or the staff.
- All reckless behavior in and around the pool is prohibited. Examples of this behavior include: pushing, pulling, or throwing others into the pool; unnecessary splashing, water fighting, or other unruly behavior. Lifeguards and pool staff will enforce these rules. Members who are not following the rules will be asked to exit the pool or pool area.
Matters pertaining to tennis tournaments, ladders, and events, match rules, play, and conduct of players are under the direction of the Tennis Committee and Tennis Director. All suggestions and complaints should be referred to the Tennis Committee, Club Manager, or your Board of Governors in writing.
Tennis Guests:
Please refer to the Guest Rules below. All rules apply to Tennis Guests except where noted.
Attire:
Appropriate tennis attire is expected on the courts at all times.
- Shirts must be worn.
- Bathing suits are not appropriate attire when on the courts.
- Rubber-soled tennis sneakers are the ONLY footwear allowed at any time. Flip flops, water shoes, etc. are NOT tennis shoes and are NOT permitted.
Etiquette:
- Show respect and courtesy: To your opponent(s), your partner, and others on or near the courts. Keep your voice down. Do not disrupt players on adjacent courts.
- Do not walk onto another court during a game: Wait for the players to finish the game, or minimally the point, before walking onto their court.
- Do not retrieve your ball from the other court: Wait for them to finish and ask for help.
- Always wear proper tennis shoes.
- Use the tennis courts for tennis only.
- Close the gate behind you: This will keep the balls inside the confines of the courts.
- Pick up after yourself: Remove tennis balls from the court when you leave. Dispose of all trash including water bottles, soda cans, or tennis ball canisters in trash containers.
- Monitor children on the courts at all times.
- Kids ages 10 and up OR entering 5th grade may enter the Barn. The exception is children under the age of 10 may attend scheduled craft times if accompanied by an adult caregiver 16+.
- Kids may only enter the Barn when a Staff member is present.
- Use all crafting materials and games/equipment responsibly.
- No swearing, teasing, rough play, or playing music with explicit lyrics.
Guest Fees: $5 /person or $15 /family
- Guests must be registered and the appropriate fees paid at the gate or the snack bar, or by scanning QR code (informational signs are on the courts) before using the Club facilities. When the snack bar is closed, guest fees should be sent by scanning the QR code or mailed to:

Bedford, MA 01730 - Members MUST accompany their guests at the club (at all times) and are responsible for the conduct of their guests. Members are responsible for informing their guests of the Club Rules and must introduce guests who wish to swim to the lifeguards on duty.
- Adult members must register all guests under the age of 15 either in person or by phone (in advance). After 6 pm, an adult member must accompany all guests under the age of 15.
- The same guest will be allowed no more than 6 times in one season per membership.
- No guest is allowed to participate in any swimming or tennis lessons.
Bedford Guests:
- Bedford residents/guests are welcome beginning July 5th.
- The only exception to this rule is adult members may bring adult (18 or older) Bedford resident guests to play tennis only (no use of the pool) prior to July 5th.
- Guest rules and fees apply.
- Each membership will be allowed no more than 6 Bedford guests/families in the month of July, and 10 in the month of August.
House Guest:
- Individuals from out-of-town, temporarily residing in the home of a Club member must pay guest fees.
- Members who have house guests must request permission from the Club Manager for them to use the Club facilities.
- Weekly rates of $15/person and $50/family are available.
Live-in Childcare Providers:
- Any member having a live-in childcare provider (e.g., nanny, au-pair, etc.) is allowed to have this individual use the Club while on duty and/or accompanied by the family and is exempt from guest fees.
- Permission to use the Club’s facilities while not on duty must be obtained from the Club Manager or the Board of Governors.
Babysitters:
- Non-member sitters are exempt from guest fees.
Grandparents:
- Grandparents who come to observe their grandchildren and do not use the Club facilities are exempt from the guest fees.
Infants:
- Babies under 18 months of age are exempt from guest fees.
Note: The number of guests may be limited, depending on the level of staffing and crowding, subject to the discretion of the Club Manager. The Board of Governors may limit the privilege of having guests at any given time.
- Children aged 6 and under:
- May use the wading pool area. (with parent/adult supervision)
- Children aged 6 and up:
- Can use the bathrooms without an adult present.
- Children aged 10 and up:
- Can stay at the pool without an adult present until 6 pm if they have passed the pool test.
- Have access to the Barn (10 and up or entering 5th grade). The exception is children under the age of 10 may attend scheduled craft time if accompanied by an adult caregiver 16+.
- Children aged 13 and up:
- Do not need to take the swim test.
- Can stay/swim after 6 pm without an adult present.
- Can babysit at Wedgewood.
- Guests aged 13 and up need not be accompanied by an adult member prior to 6 pm.
- Children aged 16 and up:
- Considered adults for tennis and swimming (adult swimming).
