Junior Tennis Lessons
Junior tennis lessons are offered for Beginners, Advanced Beginners, Intermediates, and Advanced Intermediates on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The Advanced Intermediate lessons are the highest level of group instruction offered for children at the Club and are an option for children who are not yet ready for Team or prefer non-competitive play.
Lessons typically run for 6 weeks (sometimes 7 weeks) from late June to early August.
Children must be 7 years old in this calendar year to be eligible for junior lessons.
Lesson registration instructions are sent be sent by email in May – make sure you are signed up for Club emails, see the Newsletter page.
PLEASE NOTE: Children who participate on a tennis team receive instruction during team practices and should NOT be signed up for lessons.

Tennis Lesson & Team Registration Information
*Recommended tennis lesson levels are listed in the link below.
- Lesson and Team registration is done in mid-May via SignUpGenius. Information will be sent to members by email in advance of the signup date.
- Team tryout dates are announced in the Spring Newsletter and will be on the website calendar as soon as they are set.
- If your child was on A-Team or B-Team last season and wants to continue on that team, they DO NOT need to attend tryouts. Choose “Return to (A or B) Team” during registration. IMPORTANT: When registering your child, please provide the player’s cell phone number (if they have one) as A-Team especially communicates regularly by text.
- If your child was on B-Team last year but would like to tryout for A-Team, please register for A-Team tryouts. If they do not advance to A-Team Alternates or A-Team, they will remain on B-Team.
- If your child was on A-Team Alternates last year but would like to tryout for A-Team, please register for A-Team tryouts. If they do not advance to A-Team, they will play on A-Team Alternates.
- If your child’s recommended level is “Tryout for team”, please register for tryouts on the lesson sign up. IMPORTANT: When registering your child for A-Team tryouts, please provide the player’s cell phone number (if they have one) as A-Team especially communicates regularly by text.
- When registering your child for team tryouts, please also sign your child up for an Advanced Intermediate lesson. If your child does not make a team, they will stay in that lesson. If your child makes a team, they will be removed from the lesson list.
-
If your child’s level is “Girls’ Team”, please register for the Girls’ Team during lesson sign up. These girls are also eligible to play matches throughout the season. The lineups for girls will be decided each week during their practice time.
- If your child is recommended for a team but is not interested in match play at the current time, please sign them up for an Advanced Intermediate level lesson unless otherwise recommended.
-
If you do not see your child’s name, it means that they are already on one of the tennis teams or they have not taken lessons recently.
- While there is room for everyone to participate in lessons, your preferred time slots may fill up. Your prompt online registration will secure your child’s placement and facilitate staff planning. If your child is going to want to do lessons with a friend, please make sure to coordinate the day/time both families will sign up BEFORE signing up for lessons.
- If you have any questions regarding your child’s recommended level, please get in touch with the tennis committee at tennis@thewedgewoodclub.org.
- If your child’s name is on the list and they will no longer be taking lessons, please email the tennis committee at tennis@thewedgewoodclub.org so they can be removed from the list.
Skill Level Description
We request that you refer to this guide in placing your child in lessons. In addition, you’ll find the recommended levels for each student based on their performance last summer under ‘Recommended Tennis Levels’ above. Using these resources, please register your child in the level you feel is the most appropriate. Time will be taken during the first week of lessons to assure that students are placed in the classes most suited to their ability and comfort level.
